Add tips as you receive them

Tap Add a tip, enter the new amount, select cash or card and save. On your first entry, enter your workplace. Hours and wages can wait. The next tip defaults to the sole shift on that work date; if you have several shifts, choose the right one. Use New shift when starting another shift.

Quick entry adds only the new amount. It updates the shift's totals; it does not keep a separate receipt for each tip. After saving, use Undo for the last change or Edit shift to correct the totals.

Enter totals after your shift, or come back later

Tap Add a shift to enter everything together. If an existing shift is missing hours, choose it from the prompt to finish that record, or choose a new shift. Edit shift replaces the amounts shown with the final totals, so do not enter the same tips again using quick entry.

Hours and wages can stay blank until known. Enter worked time after unpaid breaks. Change the work date for past shifts; for overnight work, use the date the shift began. Close and return to resume an unfinished draft. Drafts stay on this device and are not included in ledger backups.

Understand your money

Earned income is wages plus cash/card tips and tips received from coworkers, less tips shared out. Card tips paid later and wages are expected through payroll. A payroll payment records money actually received and withholding from your payslip. It reduces the outstanding balance without adding earnings twice. Unknown wages remain unknown; the app does not estimate tax.

Optional iCloud Drive backups

Open Your data → iCloud & backups → Choose backup folder. In Files, choose a private folder in iCloud Drive. With Pro or an active 14-day preview, turn on Automatic backups. Manual JSON backup and restore remain free. Selecting the folder alone does not start backups. Saved changes are copied while Tiploom is open; use Back up now before changing devices. Check the upload status and date: Saved to folder does not mean iCloud has finished uploading. If access is lost, select the folder again. If storage is full, free space or choose another destination, then retry.

On another device, select the same folder, choose a snapshot and review its counts and currency. Confirm restoration only after checking the preview. The current local ledger file is preserved before replacement. This is backup/restore, not live device synchronization. Existing snapshots are never overwritten by a later backup. Copies are retained in Files until you remove them; the screen shows the newest 30. Drafts and preferences are not in these snapshots.

Back up before switching phones

1. Open Your data → Create backup.
2. Save the JSON file in Files at a location accessible from the new device.
3. On the new device, choose Your data → Import backup and select it.
4. Check the preview, then confirm. Compare shifts, jobs and payments before removing the old installation.

Importing the same backup twice does not duplicate records. Existing records with matching IDs are preserved; importing an older copy does not undo later edits. CSV imports shift history; use JSON to recover jobs and payroll settlements too. Drafts and preferences are not included in JSON backups. A successful share does not guarantee an off-device copy; check the destination yourself.

Restore Pro

Use the same Apple Account used for the purchase. Open Your data → Tiploom Pro → Restore purchases. Pro is available monthly, annually or as a lifetime purchase. Monthly and annual plans renew until canceled; use Manage subscriptions to cancel or change a plan. Canceling keeps access through the verified paid period. Buying lifetime does not cancel an existing subscription. An unavailable price does not block free record keeping, raw CSV export or the optional device preview. The preview requires an explicit start, lasts 14 days, and never charges automatically. It is stored on this device and is not restored as an Apple purchase. After it ends, automatic backups pause; existing records and backup recovery remain accessible. Contact support if restoration continues to fail; never send your Apple Account password.

Change language or currency

Your data → App language opens system Settings. Changing language does not convert money. Currency can be chosen before adding records or drafts. Different-currency ledgers cannot be combined, and a foreign-currency import cannot reinterpret an unfinished draft.

Reminders

Enable Your data → Shift reminder → Daily reminder, then grant notification permission. If notifications are disabled, open system Settings to change permission. A reminder contains no income or workplace details.

A file will not open

Keep the original. Use Your data → Recover previous saved copy, or import an exported JSON backup. The app preserves the original before recovery. Unsupported, damaged or oversized files are not imported. Backups are limited to 20 MB.

Import CSV history

Open Your data → Import CSV history → Choose CSV. Use a UTF-8 file with a header row, then map the date and job columns. Dates must use YYYY-MM-DD. Worked minutes are optional; blank hours and wages remain unknown. Unmapped tip amounts default to zero. Select the semicolon and decimal-comma options if your file uses them.

Preview the rows before saving. Invalid rows cannot be imported. Possible duplicates start unchecked; select one only if it represents a separate shift. A mapped currency must match your ledger. If the ledger changes while you are reviewing, preview again before importing. Import appends the selected rows and preserves existing records.

CSV imports are limited to 2 MB, 5,000 data rows and 100 columns. Payroll settlements and saved job presets are not imported from CSV; use a Tiploom JSON backup for complete record recovery. Third-party export compatibility is not guaranteed: check the column mapping and preview amounts carefully.
